The United States has re-imposed sanctions on Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories who has been a vocal critic of Israel in recent months.
A few days ago, sanctions against Albanese were suspended following a court order, but President Donald Trump's administration had declared that it was a temporary measure.
On May 27, the US Treasury Department published a notice on its official website confirming that Albanese had been re-added to the list of sanctioned persons. Inclusion on this list prevents him from using credit cards and conducting banking transactions.
A judge in Washington had earlier suspended the previous decision pending a review of the case on the merits, following a complaint filed by Albanese's husband, Massimiliano Cali.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the sanctions were imposed because Albanese "has spread anti-Semitism and expressed support for terrorism."
