The latest wave of Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon is being considered a dangerous escalation of the situation, calling into question the validity of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.
According to reports from Beirut, intense shelling has hit numerous areas in the south of the country, while up to 300 towns and villages south of the Zahrani River have received evacuation orders from Israeli authorities.
This situation has caused a massive exodus of civilians, who are abandoning their homes for fear of new attacks. Residents have been asked to immediately leave areas declared as "combat zones", with the warning that they risk their lives if they remain there.
Although a 45-day extension of the ceasefire between the two countries was announced on April 17, developments on the ground show a completely different reality. Attacks and bombings continue almost daily, mainly in southern Lebanon.
According to reports, Israeli troops are operating in dozens of towns and villages in the southern area, while Israel's strategic objective of weakening and destroying Hezbollah appears not to have been fully achieved.
The situation remains extremely tense and fears of a wider conflict in the region are increasing by the hour.
