US Ambassador to UN optimistic: Iran deal will be signed today
US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz

US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz said he is "confident" that a deal with Iran will be signed today, but he evaded when asked to provide any details and said more details would be left for future talks.

" I'll leave the details and the actual timing to the White House. The Iranians are incredibly difficult negotiators, coupled with the fact that they're having a very difficult time getting instructions from their supreme leader. I'm confident, the team is confident. I'll leave the final details to them to announce. I don't want to preempt the president or the vice president, but they have every intention of getting this done today ," Waltz said on ABC's "This Week."

However, Waltz had few details about what the Iranians have agreed to, although he spoke of sanctions relief that he described as "pay for performance" and a verification system for their nuclear facilities. Critically, he said there is still much to be done.

"The most important part going forward is that this is a memorandum of understanding. A lot of these details will be worked out as we move forward in the next round of negotiations. The highly enriched uranium has to go away, their enrichment capabilities have to be given up, their support for terrorist proxies has to end ," Waltz added.

The ambassador also said that if Iran were to attempt to impose taxes on the Strait of Hormuz, this would be completely unacceptable and, frankly, illegal under international law.
