UPDATE/ Information edition, 18:00

We invite you to follow the Informative Edition with the main developments up to this hour of the day, where among other things we highlight:

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, appeared today at SPAK, where he issued strong accusations against the government and the justice system. He demanded a direct confrontation in court with Edi Rama, accusing him of political influence in the decision-making of the new justice institutions. Berisha also mentioned specific names in justice and politics, while continuing the denunciations of the “Partizani” case, emphasizing that the prime minister should be investigated.

On the other hand, the Democratic Party has denounced the backstage of the "Mountain Package", accusing the government of policies that, according to it, are leading to the depopulation of rural areas and the decline of agriculture and livestock.

These concerns are also related to the reaction of farmers, who have announced a protest against the National Scheme 2026. The Livestock Association argues that the new changes do not cover production costs, especially after the removal of free oil, further worsening the economic situation of the sector.

Meanwhile, the price of tomatoes has reached record levels, becoming a luxury product for many families. Farmers say that rising costs and difficult weather conditions have reduced production and increased prices, making tomatoes one of the most expensive products on the market.

On the economic front, MP Jorida Tabaku criticized the current development model, emphasizing that economic growth is not coming from production, but from construction and the expansion of administration. According to her, the fiscal burden is falling mainly on the middle class, while the real economy is weakening.

Along the same lines, the Bank of Albania has intervened heavily in the foreign exchange market during 2025, purchasing over 1 billion euros to stabilize the exchange rate and increase foreign exchange reserves. However, the lek has continued to strengthen, raising questions about the real effects of this policy.

Regarding security, an explosion with explosives occurred in the apartment of a local DP official in Memaliaj, while the perpetrators fled after burning the vehicle. Fortunately, there was only material damage. Also in Tirana, police arrested 37-year-old Perikli Doçi, who was caught with a weapon, explosives and a silicone mask, preventing a possible criminal incident.

In the international arena, Italian authorities cracked down on a drug trafficking network, arresting 19 Albanians. Meanwhile, in Peru, a criminal organization with Albanian involvement was dismantled, which was deceiving buyers by selling flour instead of cocaine.

In Kosovo, Prime Minister Albin Kurti has begun consultations on the election of a new president after the end of Vjosa Osmani's mandate. Meetings with political leaders, including Lumir Abdixhiku, aim to reach a consensus to avoid early elections.

Meanwhile, in North Macedonia, Albanian students have protested in Skopje, demanding the right to take the bar exam in Albanian. They consider the current ban discriminatory and contrary to the law on the use of languages.

In global developments, tensions between the US and Iran remain high. Despite discussions of a possible ceasefire, harsh rhetoric and threats from both sides, including statements by Donald Trump, indicate that the situation in the Middle East remains fragile.

Finally, Albanian art suffered a great loss with the passing of actor Ilir Shkurti, who was accompanied to his final resting place. He left behind a rich legacy in theater and cinema, remaining a beloved figure for the public.
