The Council of Ministers has approved funding for religious communities for 2026, allocating a total fund of 203 million lek from the state budget to communities that have agreements with the government.
According to the decision, the majority of the fund will be distributed to support the administration and educational institutions of religious communities, while a portion will also be used for specific projects.
The Muslim Community of Albania benefits from 57.3 million lek, of which 28.2 million lek for 94 administration employees and 29.1 million lek for 97 employees in educational institutions.
The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania benefits from 48.6 million lek, divided into 24.6 million lek for 82 administration employees and 24 million lek for 80 education employees.
The same amount, 48.6 million lek, also benefits the Catholic Church in Albania, where 15 million lek goes to the administration and 33.6 million lek to 112 employees in educational institutions.
Meanwhile, the World Bektashi Patriarchate benefits from 48.5 million lek, of which 9 million lek for administration, 28 million lek as a contribution to the construction of the Shtufi Tekke in Gjirokastra, and 11.5 million lek to support its activities as a world center.
According to the decision, the fund will be disbursed in full by April 2026, while the Ministry of Finance and the State Committee for Cults have been tasked with implementation.
Full decision
1. The funding measure of 203,000,000 (two hundred three million) leks, from the 2026 budget, approved to financially support religious communities, is used as follows:
a) The Muslim Community of Albania benefits from the amount of 57,300,000 (fifty-seven million three hundred thousand) lekë, divided into:
i. 28 200 000 (twenty-eight million two hundred thousand) lekë, for financing with half the minimum budget salary for 94 (ninety-four) administration employees;
ii. 29 100 000 (twenty-nine million one hundred thousand) lekë, for financing with half the minimum budget salary for 97 (ninety-seven) employees of preschool, pre-university and university education institutions.
b) The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania benefits from the amount of 48,600,000 (forty-eight million six hundred thousand) lekë, divided into:
i. 24,600,000 (twenty-four million six hundred thousand) lekë, for financing with half of the minimum budget salary for 82 (eighty-two) administration employees;
ii. 24,000,000 (twenty-four million) lekë, for financing with half of the minimum budget salary for 80 (eighty) employees of preschool, pre-university and university education institutions.
c) The Catholic Church in Albania benefits from the amount of 48,600,000 (forty-eight million six hundred thousand) lekë, divided into:
i. 15,000,000 (fifteen million) lekë, for financing with half the minimum budget salary, for 50 (fifty) administration employees;
ii. 33,600,000 (thirty-three million six hundred thousand) lekë, for financing with half the minimum budget salary for 112 (one hundred and twelve) employees of preschool, pre-university and university education institutions.
ç) The World Bektashi Patriarchate benefits from the amount of 48,500,000 (forty-eight million five hundred thousand) lekë, divided into:
i. 9,000,000 (nine million) lekë, for financing up to half of the minimum budget salary for 30 (thirty) administration employees;
ii. 28,000,000 (twenty-eight million) lekë, as a contribution to the construction of the Shtufi Tekke, Gjirokastër;
iii. 11,500,000 (eleven million and five hundred thousand) lekë, due to its special position as the World Patriarchate, based in Tirana, and the extension of its activity abroad, which will be used to fully or partially cover the preventive claims presented by it in the request for the year 2026, according to the financial documentation submitted.
2. The transfer of the fund, specified in point 1 of this decision, shall be made all at once, within the month of April 2026.
3. The Ministry of Finance and the State Committee for Cults are charged with the implementation of this decision.
This decision enters into force immediately and is published in the "Official Gazette".
