The movement of vehicles and passengers at the Kapshtica border crossing point was temporarily suspended this morning due to a protest organized by Greek customs officers.
From 05:00 to 09:00, the Greek side suspended work, preventing the passage of vehicles and citizens into Greek territory. As a result, delays were created at the border, while some travelers, who had completed the procedures on the Albanian side and had left the country's territory, were forced to wait in the border area until the Greek side resumed work.
The protest was organized by the customs workers' union in Greece, which demands an increase in the number of employees, improved working conditions and salaries, as well as the implementation of commitments made by the Greek government for their treatment in the public administration.
According to the union, the lack of staff and high workload are directly affecting the normal functioning of border crossings and customs services, making intervention by the authorities necessary.
Customs officers have warned that if their demands are not taken into consideration, they will continue with other forms of protests in the coming days.
After the protest hours end, traffic at the Kapshtica border crossing is expected to return to normal, while authorities have called on travelers to take into account the delays created during the morning.
