The Albanian prosecution has launched investigations into the criminal offenses of illegal wiretapping, two days after it was reported that eavesdropping equipment, which had come from Italy and had remained in Albania for several hours, was blocked at the Port of Durres.
The devices were blocked in a vehicle in which three Italian citizens were traveling, two of whom turned out to be Guardia di Finanza officials, while the third is thought to have been contracted by them to use the interception devices.
Despite the institutions refusing to comment, trusted sources for News24 indicate that the itinerary followed by the three Italian citizens has been revealed.
They traveled on the Bari-Durres ferry and stayed for at least 12 hours in the territory of our country. During this time, there are strong suspicions that they used it to conduct wiretapping of certain subjects.
When they attempted to leave on the Durrës-Ancona ferry, the border police discovered the eavesdropping devices.
The two Guardia di Finanza officers and the other person were questioned by the authorities and then allowed to leave for Italy.
According to reports, the eavesdropping devices have been seized and are expected to undergo an examination. Sources confirm that there have been communications with the Italian side on this issue, as preliminary verifications show that there was no authorization from the Albanian side for the use of the devices in the framework of a joint investigation.
