Security expert and former head of the State Police, Shemsi Prençi, stated on the podcast "Të Pashoq" that the United Arab Emirates has begun deporting important exponents of the Albanian criminal world, as according to him, they have also created problems in Dubai.
Prençi said that for years Dubai has been considered a safe haven for organized crime figures from Albania and Europe, due to the lack of extradition agreements.
" Dubai does not have extradition agreements with many countries. Albania has also had many difficulties in this regard. For years, many exponents of the criminal world have stayed there without problems. But the Emirates have a very clear rule: if you do not create problems in their territory, they leave you alone. The moment you are involved in clashes, incidents or criminal activities that violate security there, they do not tolerate you ," declared Prençi.
According to him, some of the Albanian organized crime figures have created tensions and conflicts in Dubai, which has led to the reaction of the Arab authorities.
" Some of the Albanian exponents of the criminal world have not behaved well in the United Arab Emirates either. They have created problems there as well and for this reason they have started deportations. We are not dealing with classic extradition, but with police deportations due to their dangerousness and implications ," said the former head of the Police.
Prençi said that these deportations are very important for SPAK and investigations in Albania, as many of the returnees are suspected of having knowledge of assassinations and clashes between criminal groups.
" These people are assets for the investigation bodies in Albania. SPAK and the police have a great interest in them, because Albania has had over 32 assassinations with more than 50 victims in recent years. Most are related to settling scores between international drug trafficking groups. Deporting these figures could help in solving many criminal cases ," Prençi declared.
He added that the cooperation of the Albanian police with Europol and Eurojust has brought another level in the exchange of information and the pursuit of organized crime exponents abroad.
