Analyst Ermal Hasimja has raised the alarm that the strengthening of organized crime in Albania has reached such a level that it has already entered the radar of American politics.
On "A2 CNN" he said that the dark world of Albanian crime has become so visible that it has been perceived as a strategic problem even in the context of the Western Hemisphere, which the US considers an area of direct interest.
" The dark world of crime in Albania has already become so powerful and has been so successful that it has even appeared on the radar of Americans in what Trump's own strategy calls the Western Hemisphere and which he considers his private garden ," he said.
Hasimja emphasized that Prime Minister Edi Rama's government is at a historical turning point, emphasizing that there are problems with citizens, internationals, and the criminal world itself.
" We are at a major turning point. There is a gigantic problem. That is, Edi Rama has the problem now, Edi Rama and Rilindja as a whole as a model, as a philosophy and everything because it is not just Edi Rama. There is a problem with Albanian citizens, there is a problem with internationals. If it were only this, the work would be easy. There is also a problem with the dark world, in the world of crime ," he added.
According to Hasime, the situation becomes even more dangerous when individuals who have no political mandate prove to be more powerful than ministers, exerting direct pressure on them.
" At this moment, Rama can no longer be seen as an independent actor who decides only under pressure from public opinion or internationals. There is a parallel pressure from the dark world, which carries no electoral cost ," he stressed.
The analyst warned that this situation could lead the country towards two scenarios: either a withdrawal of Rama through political negotiations, or a slide towards an authoritarian model, similar to the regimes of Central Asia. According to him, this makes the current moment one of the most dangerous and decisive points of the entire Albanian transition.
