The European Union Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, has stressed the need to intensify the fight against corruption and organized crime, during a meeting with the Minister of Justice, Toni Gogu.
The focus of the discussion was on the challenges that justice institutions continue to face, where in addition to efficiency and citizen access, the necessity for stronger results in combating corruption was clearly underlined.
" The justice system must increase efficiency, improve access for citizens and strengthen procedural guarantees ," said Gonzato, adding that the European Union will continue to support these reforms, but with a particular focus on the fight against corruption and organized crime.
The EU's message comes at a time when progress in justice remains key to Albania's European integration, while expectations for concrete results in the fight against corruption remain high.
Ambassador Gonzato also emphasized that the Ministry of Justice has a crucial role in ensuring that reforms do not remain just on paper, but are translated into real improvements for citizens and the functioning of institutions.
The European Union is expected to continue its support through projects and direct cooperation with Albanian institutions, while the emphasis remains on strengthening the rule of law and the effective fight against corruption.
" Today we had a good meeting with the Minister of Justice, Toni Gogu, on the main challenges facing the justice system in Albania. At the heart of the discussion was the need to support the justice system to increase efficiency, improve access to justice for Albanian citizens and strengthen procedural guarantees. We also discussed how the European Union can support the judicial system in achieving these objectives, while strengthening the fight against organized crime and corruption. The Ministry of Justice plays a central role in ensuring that reforms translate into concrete improvements for citizens and justice institutions. We will continue to support these efforts through dedicated projects and close cooperation with justice institutions ", said EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato.
