European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen begins her Balkan tour today, with the first destination being Tirana.
He was initially received by President Bajram Begaj, and is now meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama.
At 11:15, they will hold a joint press conference.
The President of the European Commission, Von der Leyen, has held regular meetings with leaders of the Western Balkan countries, focusing on the accession negotiations process. Since taking office, Von der Leyen has expressed her commitment to the enlargement of the European Union.
In addition to the negotiation process, the EU's €6 billion Growth Plan for the Western Balkans for the period 2024–2027 will also be discussed.
Tirana welcomes today and tomorrow the first EU–WB6 (European Union – Western Balkans) Investment Forum, an event that brings together Western Balkan countries, EU decision-makers and investors from around the world.
Supported by the European Commission, this forum aims to strengthen economic cooperation and investment opportunities between the Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia) and the Member States of the European Union.
According to the official agenda, the forum will open with a welcoming speech by Prime Minister Rama, who will underline the importance of the event for the development of the region. After him, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will deliver her opening speech.
