Initially, the judoka from Peja who competes in the category up to 73 kilograms defeated in the first round the opponent from Brazil, Daniel Cargni by Ippon.
In the second round, Akili managed to defeat the Austrian, Samuel Gassner again this time with Ippon, to continue among the top eight judokas.
In the third round, Gjakova faced the Italian Manuel Lombardo, where regular time ended without a winner, until the two judokas went to the 'Golden Score'.
The Italian received three faults and Akil Gjakova qualified for the semi-finals. The Kosovar judoka faced the judoka from Azerbaijan, Hidayat Heydarov - but suffered a defeat in "Golden Score".
