Real Madrid triumphed in a tense and dramatic El Clásico, defeating Barcelona 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu and extending their lead at the top of La Liga to five points.

After a tumultuous start, Los Blancos exploited their tactical superiority to secure three valuable points, showing the momentum after recovering from a crushing 5-2 defeat to city rivals Atlético Madrid.

Xabi Alonso's team came into the match on the back of four consecutive wins in all competitions and maintained that high form from the opening minutes. Within two minutes, referee César Soto Grado awarded Real a penalty after a dangerous tackle by Lamine Yamal on Vinícius Júnior, but a quick VAR review overturned the decision, leaving the Madrid team disappointed. However, they did not give up: In the 12th minute, Kylian Mbappé struck from distance with a ball that ended up in the net, but the celebrations were again cut short by an offside position confirmed by VAR.

Determined to make amends for last season's four El Clásico defeats, Real pushed forward aggressively. The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute: Jude Bellingham controlled the ball brilliantly and set up Mbappé, who scored his 12th goal in nine games against Barcelona, ​​curling a powerful shot past the left post to make it 1-0.

It was a familiar situation for the Blaugrana, who have conceded the first goal in five of their last ten league games. Barcelona responded strongly, equalising in the 38th minute thanks to a precise pass from Pedri to Fermín López, who found himself one-on-one with Thibaut Courtois and calmly slotted the ball into the net to level the scores at 1-1.

The tie was short-lived: Just five minutes later, in the 43rd, Vinícius Júnior launched a quick counterattack, delivering a short cross into the area where Éder Militão laid the ball down for Bellingham, who did not miss the opportunity and scored with a light shot into the empty net and made it 2-1.

The first half ended with drama: Mbappé scored again in the 45th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside, while the referee added six minutes of extra time.

The second half began with high tension. Immediately after the restart, Wojciech Szczęsny made a heroic save to stop Mbappé from a questionable penalty, following a suspected handball by Eric García in the area.

The Blaugrana, with their high defensive line, risked being caught offside several times, but a potential goal by Brahim Díaz was disallowed for offside by Bellingham.

Real slowed down during a period of calm, managing possession carefully. In the final minutes, Barcelona had the best chance to equalize: Jules Koundé poorly controlled a ball on his chest, leaving the ball towards the area, but the Catalan attackers failed to capitalize.

The drama was sealed by Pedri's second yellow card, leaving Barcelona with 10 men in the final seconds, a heavy blow for Hansi Flick's team.

This ninth consecutive home league win marks Real Madrid's best run in more than a decade and keeps Barcelona in second place, with no chance of catching up. For Alonso, it is his first triumph as a coach against the Blaugrana, becoming only the second manager in the club's last eight appointments to avoid defeat in his first league game against them.

With only one defeat this season, the Madrid team seems invincible, while El Clásico continues to be an epic battle that keeps millions of fans in suspense.
