The 2026 World Cup round of 16 will bring a special clash between two Arsenal teammates, as Viktor Gyokeres and William Saliba will be rivals in the match between Sweden and France.
Just weeks after celebrating the Premier League title together, the Swedish striker and the French centre-back will face off on the international stage, with France considered one of the main favourites to triumph in the tournament.
Gyokeres, who was one of Sweden's key figures in the group stage, has spoken enthusiastically about the challenge against one of the best defenders in the world.
"I'm looking forward to seeing him and playing against him. It will be fun," said the Swedish striker.
Despite Sweden entering this match as the slight favorite after a difficult qualification from the group stage, Gyokeres believes his team has reason to believe in surprises.
"We have our own belief. I think we have to believe in ourselves. We have seen in many matches of this tournament that teams that were not considered favorites have managed to win."
"You can put in good performances even when you're playing against the best teams in the world," he said.
"Of course we may be the slight favorites, but we continue to believe in ourselves."
The Arsenal striker stressed that Sweden must play a near-perfect match to eliminate France.
"We have to be at our maximum level. Our defensive organization has to be almost perfect and then we have to take advantage of the opportunities that will be created for us," concluded Gyokeres.
