One person died at the scene, while another is in critical condition after a shooting incident at a World Cup fan zone in San Jose, California, according to San Jose Police.
The incident took place at a popular entertainment venue in the city, where tournament matches were being broadcast. No match was being played at the time of the shooting, as the only match of the previous day, on June 28, between South Africa and Canada, had already concluded.
"One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The second person was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries," San Jose Police said.
Authorities are treating the case as a homicide. Several roads around the area remain blocked off to facilitate the investigation.
Units are currently investigating a shooting in the area of N Market St and W Santa Clara St. One victim was pronounced deceased on the scene. The second victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Bay Area has hosted five World Cup matches so far. A large police force was deployed to the area following the incident. Witnesses reported that several police vehicles arrived at the scene immediately, while an injured person was taken to the hospital on a stretcher.
Police cordoned off the area and most of the bars in the neighborhood remained closed.
A security guard, who asked to remain anonymous, said she saw the injured man a few minutes after the incident.
"He was still moaning in pain. There was blood around his neck and upper back, while officers were taking statements from security personnel and eyewitnesses," she stated.
Investigations into the circumstances of the incident continue.
