A serious incident has occurred in Tijuana, Mexico, just days after the start of the 2026 World Cup, after local authorities found a dead body in a vehicle near the facilities where the Iranian national team trains.
According to local media reports, the body was discovered on Friday, June 12, inside the trunk of an abandoned vehicle parked outside the Caliente stadium, which is used by the Iranian national team for training sessions during the tournament, and is also located nearby the hotel where the team is staying.
Reports indicate that the vehicle had been in the same location for about three days before the body was discovered. According to the same sources, the victim was placed inside a black bag, had obvious signs of violence and was in an advanced stage of decomposition.
There is no evidence to link the incident to the Iranian national team or World Cup activities. Mexican authorities have launched an investigation to identify the victim and clarify the circumstances of the incident.
The case brings to light the ongoing challenges Mexico faces in fighting crime and violence, despite the great international attention that the hosting of the 2026 World Cup has attracted.
