Former Borussia Dortmund and German national team goalkeeper Eike Immel has been sentenced to two years and two months in prison after being found guilty of fraud on 107 counts.

The news was confirmed by his lawyer, Turgay Schmidt, to the German news agency (DPA), while the decision was given by the district court in Marburg.

According to the indictment, in the vast majority of cases, Immel had borrowed money from acquaintances but never returned it. The total amount of the fraud is estimated at around 34 thousand euros.

The decision is not yet final, as the defense has announced an appeal.

"We will appeal against the decision."

"We will await the court's written reasoning, carefully review it, and then prepare the appeal," said attorney Schmidt. The legal deadline for appeal is one week.

Immel, who during his career played for Borussia Dortmund, VfB Stuttgart and the West German national team, now faces one of the most difficult moments of his life off the field.
