Chelsea have left enough players out of the team's tour of the USA to complete three different squads. The Blues kick off their pre-season tour against Rexham in California on Wednesday.
The new coach Enco Mareska will better analyze his team with the other games scheduled against Seltik, Manchester City and Real Madrid. But 43 players, excluding injured stars and internationals given an extended rest, are not part of the 28-man pool. Many of them are unlikely to play for the Blues again as the club look to part ways with the talents they paid a total of £190m for.
Romelu Lukaku, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Trevoh Çalobah, Çezare Kasadei, David Datro Fofana and Malang Sarr were some of the notable absences. The Blues are desperate to sell Lukaku, who they signed for £97.5m from Inter. The Belgian striker has spent the last two seasons on loan at Inter and Roma, while Chelsea is looking to transfer Napoli striker Viktor Osimhen. To achieve such a deal, they would be willing to offer £77 million, Lukaku and another player to Napoli in exchange for the Nigerian. Goalkeeper Arrizabalaga was sent on loan to Real Madrid as cover for the injured Thiboe Courtois last season.
The £72.1m buyout is said to have an offer on the table from Saudi Arabia. While academy graduate Çalobah may consider himself unlucky to find himself on the drop list. But the arrival of Tosin Adarabiojo has pushed him further up the squad list. Mark Kukureja, Enzo Fernandez, Conor Gallagher, Moises Kaisedo and Kol Palmer are resting after the EURO 2024 and Copa América tournaments. While Xorxhe Petrović is rehabilitating after an injury. The rest of the absences come mainly from Chelsea's youth teams and are not expected to break into the first team.
