Journalist Poli Hoxha stated that the recent protests have produced a significant change in Albanian society, affecting not only the country's political life, but also the way citizens perceive their relationship with government.
Hoxha stated that the impact of the protests extends to two levels: within Albanian society and in the attention that Albania has received in the international media.
"We can divide the effects of the protest into two levels. The first effect is on Albanian society, even on the entire Albanian nation, including the diaspora. We can say without fear that even international media have put Albania in the spotlight," he said.
According to the journalist, the protests have brought about a noticeable change in the mentality of citizens.
"The protest has changed Albania. The protest has awakened Albanians. It has become a state of mind, regardless of who goes to the square and who doesn't. Now people have removed their fear, they have removed their complexes about the party leaders and the political elite that seemed untouchable," said Poli Hoxha.
He added that the debate about political developments now takes place openly in everyday life.
"In every neighborhood, in every shop, in every café, it is discussed without any complexes that the time has come for this country to return to a normal democratic state ," declared Hoxha.
According to him, the protesters' demands are related to the functioning of representative democracy and the reform of the political system.
"They demand a return to the tracks of representative democracy, the return of the vote, a new Electoral Code, the return of referendums and for the president to be elected by the people," said Hoxha, adding that these changes would overturn the political model that, according to him, was built after the constitutional changes of 2008.
