There is no doubt that winning the Champions League is not prestigious, or a dream come true even if only once for footballers and coaches. But the Champions League also means a big bag of money.
In fact, only the final of this tournament is a turnover of 100 million euros in the range of prizes that the clubs win from UEFA. How much exactly will Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, or each of the other 32 participants of this season collect in total, this will be revealed by the football government only a few weeks later, after all the "calculations" are done. The figures that are known so far are: If tonight, in the legendary "Wembley", Real Madrid will be the one to lift the cup with big ears, then the basic collection will be 84.5 million euros.
If Dortmund is declared the winner, then the profits of the Germans will reach 77.9 million euros. But to these two amounts will be added something more than another 50 million euros related to the "market pool", in other words, the income distributed to the clubs by sponsors, television rights, etc. According to the figures reported by UEFA, related to Real's last triumph in the Champions League, in 2022, the Madrid team took home 133.7 million euros, while Liverpool, the eventual finalist, 119.9 million euros. Meanwhile, for Bayern Munich and Manchester City, the two semi-finalists, the amount was 109.6 and 108.7 million euros, respectively.
But from 2022 to 2024, the prizes that UEFA distributes have increased even further, since participation alone guarantees 15.6 million euros. A victory in the group stage guarantees 2.8 million euros, while a draw 930 thousand euros. Qualifying in the 1/8s of the tournament ensures 9.6 million, for the quarter-finalists 10.6 or even 12.5 million euros for each of the four semi-finalists. As for the final, the winner receives 20 million euros, while the loser receives 15.5 million euros.
