European Commissioner Glenn Micallef welcomed the decision to cancel the Villareal-Barcelona match in Miami, while also speaking about the Milan-Como match, scheduled to be held in Perth, Australia.
" I welcome La Liga's decision to cancel the Miami match," Micallef wrote on social media. "It is a victory for the fans, the players and the traditions that make European football special. It clearly represents the European Sporting Model and the values it embodies."
"We must continue to work together, the League, the clubs and UEFA, to protect the integrity, fair competition and the connection between clubs and their communities. I believe that Serie A will also reflect on such an approach. Keeping our football in Europe strengthens us all ," said the Maltese politician.
