The famous singer of the 80s-90s, Adhurim Demiri, invited to the "Gallery" column with Ed Manushi, recounted the dark period when his father was sentenced during the communist era, and how when he was released, he did not recognize him.
"My father was sentenced to 25 years for a military coup, they took him to Burrel, and then he spent almost 12 years in prison in Spaç. He showed himself smart, he told his mother 'leave, take your last name', so that we wouldn't be interned. My sister used to meet him, she used to go to Burrel because she was married with a different last name, she used to bring us information. When she came out, I didn't recognize her.
We went and waited at the train, where he would get off… I didn't recognize him. I was waiting to see my father, and my sister's husband said to me 'you have him in your arms', I said 'where is my mother?'… To be honest, I fainted. I didn't recognize him! He was talking and I was shaking. 'I didn't understand one thing, I went to prison but I don't know why', he told me...", Demiri recalls with emotion.
"During the period when my father was sentenced, we lived very poorly. I was expelled from school, my brother was taken to the military police station, my mother was taken to a quarry to break stones. The economic side was zero at all, our wages were very different from others. I managed to sing on stage for 72 hours without food... honestly, I'm not kidding. I left my share of food to my brother," he said.
