Soul legend and multiple Grammy Award winner Stevie Wonder has responded openly to the ongoing speculation about his eyesight. During a concert at Blackweir on July 9, as part of a series of shows in Cardiff, the “Part Time Lover” singer addressed the rumors that have been circulating for years about his ability to see.
“The truth is, I went blind shortly after birth,” Wonder told the audience. “But it was a blessing, because it allowed me to see the world with the eyes of the soul — beyond color, appearance, or shape.”
At the same concert, he also performed the hits "Living for the City" and "I Just Called to Say I Love You," electrifying the audience.
Strange theories about his vision have become a frequent topic in pop culture, including on podcasts like "Drink Champs," where various guests share ironic stories with claims that Stevie Wonder "can see."
Even artists like Snoop Dogg have poked fun at these rumors, telling bizarre stories in the media, but Wonder himself has always been open and calm about the subject. He has previously admitted that he does not see his blindness or his race as an obstacle.
"I have never seen being blind as a disadvantage. I am grateful that God gave me the gift to turn this reality into something positive," he told The Guardian.
