Albanian universities are below the standards of sub-Saharan Africa...
Edi Rama, after receiving the third mandate, announced a government initiative for the cooperation of Albanian public universities with those of Europe. The idea was to open branches of these universities in Albania, to supply valid diplomas to the students of these branches.
But a report prepared by the EU education commission has concluded that Albanian universities are at such a low level that they do not meet any European standards. The situation is even so bad that all the public universities in Tirana are worse than all the public universities in the region.
The European report pointed out that we are at lower levels than African ones in the Maghreb, which includes Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia.
It was precisely from this situation that the EU's PISA report, which was shocking for Albania, so much so that a similar situation in any country in the world would cause 'earthquakes' in the Ministry of Education and wider.
Edi Rama, instead of committing to a radical reform in education, removed Evis Kushi, replacing him with Ogerta Manastirliu, who, to say the least, has nothing to do with education.
Gëzim Basha, poet, literary critic and lecturer of "Eqerem Çabej" University, has been living in the USA for years. In a post on social networks, Basha has proposed a deep reform: vetting for all Higher Education professorships.
"An even greater disgrace, even more shameful, is the corruption in the educational system at the university level. Exams, diplomas, masters and doctorates are sold like GABI clothes. Plagiarism, theft of intellectual property continues as a long-term pandemic…
In the last two decades, with party crutches, the weakest pedagogues have become rectors, deans and heads of departments, mainly those with a pickpocket mentality have been hand-picked!
Vetting in education is an immediate need. The University of Tirana is ranked in the world ranking of universities
3000 places below the University of Pristina and 6500 places away from the University of Athens...
Below the standards of sub-Saharan Africa, not even the slogan, 'oh how good it was to be Albanian!', writes Basha.
The latest PISA report for Albania has brought an even more serious result than in previous years, where the lack of knowledge has dominated the European attitude to education.
It seems clear that the so-called reform in Education undertaken years ago was just a superficial practice. Since, apart from the closing of some university kiosks, it did not bring about a revival of the quality of public universities, what is the point.
Edi Rama, from 2021, talks about a project for the twinning of Albanian public universities with public institutions of developed EU countries such as Italy, Austria, Switzerland and beyond.
And in these years, there have been visits of experts and delegates from well-known universities in Europe to educational institutions. Even this is mainly focused on professional development. But as it is learned, the internationals have put their hands on their heads with what they have seen. They are stunned by the fact that there are so many doctors of science here, but in reality they are at the level of a 9-year school. The EU report makes it known that mediocrity should be stopped immediately, and then talk about a relationship between European universities and Albanian ones./ Pamphlet
