Former Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji has made strong accusations against the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama, describing its record as a model of "sophisticated corruption", while at the same time demanding profound changes within the opposition itself.
During a meeting with citizens in Tirana, Salianji said that Albania is facing the consequences of a government that, according to him, has concentrated power and decision-making in the hands of a small group of people, leaving the public interest in the background.
"The balance of Rama's governance is sophisticated corruption," he said, arguing that economic problems, the departure of citizens from the country, and the dysfunction of institutions are indicators of a governance model that has lost touch with the real needs of Albanians.
In his speech, Salianji did not stop only at criticism of the majority, but also addressed the problems that, according to him, have accompanied the Democratic Party in recent years. He stated that the largest opposition force has lost ground not only in the face of political opponents, but also due to its departure from the democratic principles and standards that established it as a governing alternative.
According to him, many democrats have been excluded from decision-making processes and have not had the opportunity to contribute to the party, while professionals and experienced figures no longer find the necessary space to engage.
"Rama is not responsible because he steals the elections and we, as the Democratic Party, are unable to bring almost 800,000 winners to the ballot boxes to exceed the number of votes that Edi Rama steals.
Because as you have seen, honorable friends, without creating moral superiority, we cannot convince Albanian citizens. If Edi Rama steals the elections, we cannot allow the DP to rob the elections, to steal the elections, to not hold elections. If Edi Rama, honorable friends, 12-13 years ago said 'renaissance', we cannot accept today that the DP is so lazy as to say "renewal" at tomorrow's usurpation assembly.
One "renaissance", the other "renewal". One steals Albania, the other steals the opposition. Rama the autocrat of Albania, Berisha the autocrat of the opposition. Albanian citizens are making the difference and for many people who say where are the young people in the DP, look at the square today, since they denied us the hall of the Palace of Congresses, the young people are in the DP, they want to join the DP," said Salianji.
