Prime Minister Edi Rama from Dibra has not spared jokes, but also accusations against Sali Berisha's opposition, as he has praised the historical leader of the socialists, the late Fatos Nano. On the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Party, Edi Rama has begun a tour of meetings with the membership of this party, as he has brought to attention the history of this political force from political survival to confronting violence from the first Berisha regime, to protecting the national interest.
Rama also said that after coming to power, the Socialist Party and its leadership did not behave towards Albanians and political opponents in the same way that Berisha behaved towards them when he was in power.
" The Socialist Party did not seek revenge, but a state of law. The Socialist Party emerged from an opposition where its return to the top of the country took place on the same days as its leader's release from prison. Where he was unjustly detained and where he was politically implicated, but at no point did he himself and the entire leadership imply any intention to take revenge, by imprisoning their prisoner.
But instead, he embarked on a more difficult path, to create the conditions for political imprisonments to never be repeated in Albania. If there was to be justice, justice would be done by justice and not politics. This is a path that unites the aspirations of Albanians who are connected to Europe. This makes the SP the only Europeanizing force of this country ," Rama said.
The Prime Minister, who is also the leader of the Socialist Party, said that this party has never shown violence in society or towards its opponents.
"Very often, the SP has been criticized by the socialists themselves. The leadership of the SP has been criticized by the SP militants themselves for being soft and tolerant in moments that have been moments of great turning points and great humiliations. The Socialists and those who were humiliated and trampled underfoot for years, saw how the tramplers continued without getting anything in their way. In this weakness lies the great strength of the SP, in relations with society and democracy ," said Rama.
While emphasizing that the SP has proven that it is the only political force that has a crystal-clear relationship with the national interest, Rama brought to attention the period of the war in Kosovo, where, according to him, Sali Berisha on the one hand bombarded Fatos Nano with accusations as an agent of Belgrade and on the other hand had supplied fuel to Milosevic's war machine.
" In these 35 years, the Socialist Party has marked some very important things in the book of Albanian political life. It has proven more than once that it is the only political force that has a crystal-clear relationship with the national interest. The most culminating example is related to that period when the Socialist Party and its historical leader, Fatos Nano, were bombarded as being linked to Belgrade ," Rama said.
In his speech, Edi Rama also recalled what he considered to be the 1996 election massacre and the violence exercised by Sali Berisha's government against the socialist opposition. Rama said that the Socialist Party survived in a darkness, recalling the burning of the Koha Jonë newspaper on March 3, 1997. Rama said that those who today act as if they have brought democracy, not only reduced the newspaper's editorial office to ashes, but also raped the journalists and dragged them to the police station.
