Former Socialist Party MP Spartak Braho has commented on the latest political developments in the country. Spaho sees Erion Braçe's offer to run for mayor of Tirana as a new movement within the party, while Braçe himself is a 'natural' socialist.
"Erion Braçe is turning 30 as a member of the SP. He is a socialist by birth. He sympathizes with the left, he sympathizes with the SP, he has been active throughout his parliamentary life, but also his political biography. I remember him not as a talented leader and journalist, but also as a prominent activist of FRESH, a brilliant economist. An experiment was made, Rama made him deputy prime minister. I know that it was a formal thing that could not both eat from the same manger. Braçe is serious, with quality, intellectual. Erion represents today a new movement in the SP that no one else has had the courage to do," said Spaho.
As a veteran of the Socialist Party, Braho has criticized Edi Rama, the party's leader and also the country's prime minister, for his leadership style. He says the SP is heading towards destruction and that there is no democracy within the party.
"The SP is now heading towards collapse. There is a deviation in the ideas it represents now, mainly they are not ideas that the left advertises, social-democratic ideas. Now in the SP, it is commanded, not led. Rama commands. Rama's leadership is more like a national-socialist leader, there is no democracy in the party. Nano had other defects, but he was a leader who democratized the party and for this he has value ," Braho said on "Today, Live in Albania".
