The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, participated today in the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development of the United Nations (FFD4) together with the leaders gathered in Seville, Spain. In his speech, the President of the Republic brought to attention Albania's commitment and the steps taken by our country to implement the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Head of State also presented our country's vision for the need for financing for development as an opportunity that guarantees sustainable, inclusive economic growth and investment for citizens through economic policies based on social justice.
Referring to the numerous global challenges, President Begaj spoke about the necessity of joint actions that translate commitments into concrete results.
" Financing for sustainable development must focus on people's well-being. Economic policies and social justice are inseparable. In Albania, we are committed to developing skills and empowering young people, expanding social protection and improving the guarantee of quality healthcare and education services ," emphasized the President of the Republic,
President Begaj spoke about the reforms undertaken by Albania, underlining that the development financing process is more than an agenda in the technical framework.
“As a developing country with a clear reform orientation, Albania has made significant progress in promoting inclusive growth, strengthening democratic governance and increasing accountability. Investments in education, health, digital infrastructure and renewable energy have become our strategic priority. We are implementing fiscal reforms to increase transparency and fairness in the tax system, and we are working intensively to ensure that public spending is geared towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals ,” he said.
Regarding the continuation of these policies, President Begaj noted that no country, regardless of its size or ambitions, can shoulder the burden of financing development alone. The President emphasized the importance of a global financial system that fosters transformation.
"Albania increasingly joins the growing voices for a reformed global financial architecture that is more inclusive, more representative and better able to cope with the multiple and interconnected crises that characterize the times in which we live. Financing for development must not remain a slogan", declared the Head of State.
Focusing on strengthening cooperation in the Western Balkans, Begaj stressed that Albania remains engaged in initiatives that strengthen regional trade, improve cross-border infrastructure and promote knowledge sharing between neighboring countries.
“Albania also recognizes the essential role that regional cooperation plays in unlocking the potential for development financing. We are actively engaged in initiatives that strengthen regional trade, improve cross-border infrastructure and promote knowledge sharing between neighboring countries. Membership in the European Union remains a strategic priority for our country ,” said Begaj.
The Head of State reconfirmed that Albania will remain an active and constructive partner in the global development community, believing in the importance of multilateralism, in the power of cooperation, and in the right of every individual to live with dignity, free from poverty and fear.
President Begaj held meetings in Seville with the King of Spain and its Prime Minister, with the UN Secretary General, as well as with heads of state participating in the conference.
