Besart Xhaferri, who received the mandate of MP in the May 11 elections after being listed on the safe list of 'PD-ASHM' candidates in the Tirana District, says that the opposition is continuing the process of documenting electoral violations that occurred during the May 11 local elections, emphasizing the lack of trust in local institutions.
Invited to the News24 studio, Xhaferri said that evidence of violations has been collected on the ground and is in the process of being documented, while criticizing the CEC and SPAK for their lack of will to act.
"The CEC will certify the elections and we have no expectations despite the fact that we have submitted evidence of violations of the Electoral Code that were committed during the campaign. We do not expect SPAK to intervene and do what it promised with the election task force," said Xhaferri.
According to him, the hope for transparency and a serious investigation of the alleged manipulations comes from internationals.
He stressed that the European People's Parties are expected to bring a fact-finding mission to the country, while the European Parliament and important political forces in Germany are demanding an investigation into the electoral process in Albania.
"We are trying to bring the same attention to the US Senate and Congress," Xhaferri said, concluding with an appeal for international support in shedding light on what the opposition considers a distorted electoral process.
