The head of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, during the meeting of the Conference of Speakers, spoke about the opposition's request to develop a motion with debate regarding the protest and citizens' demands.
According to him, the majority is trying to avoid the debate on the European Parliament report.
"Why are you hiding from the debate on the European Parliament report? Come on, let's have the debate in session. Find the paragraph that evaluates you. You have been tiring our ears for two weeks by talking about a historic resolution that, according to you, confirms the great successes of the government. Then why are you hiding?
Or is the truth different? This resolution is inciting you in every sentence, from beginning to end. It talks about corrupt laws. It raises the alarm for media freedom. You cannot deny this parliamentary debate. It was you yourself, I repeat, who said in the session that the parliamentary debate would take place after the report is approved in the European Parliament.
"This is a task that we must do. If this Assembly is not simply propagandizing European integration, then it has a duty to develop this debate," said Bardhi.
He further emphasized that the opposition does not intend to speak on behalf of the protest, but to convey the concerns and demands of citizens to the Assembly.
"We are not like you, who hide behind the keyhole every day and denigrate girls and women who protest. You are making a name for yourself. You, Ulsi, laugh because you see the cars of immigrants, but you don't see your cars. What you are doing is scandalous and our duty is to listen to the citizens. This is what we are doing, we listen to their voices and use every instrument at our disposal to convey their concerns and demands," he added.
On the other hand, the head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, opposed the opposition's request, arguing that it does not meet the criteria set out in the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly and the Constitution.
"The request does not meet the criteria of Article 98. You can base the no-confidence motion on Article 101. You also need to propose a new Prime Minister. Do you have this?", he said.
Balla also accused the opposition of distorting the protesters' demands and speaking on their behalf without legitimacy.
"Why are you distorting the protesters' demands? You say five demands, but only one matches what has been made public. The overthrow of the government, a caretaker government, the law on political parties, and others are distortions of the protest demands," said Balla.
In conclusion, he also recalled the procedural restrictions for parliamentary interpellations.
"You know that Article 89, which regulates interpellations, does not allow for the holding of two interpellations on the same issue within one parliamentary session. You can withdraw and reformulate the request," Balla concluded.
