Fatos Lubonja commented on the political situation in the country and the development of the civic protests being held in Tirana, focusing on the factors that may influence their continuity and strength.
During an interview on the show "This Week", he praised the behavior of the protest participants, emphasizing that citizens have shown a high level of maturity in managing the situation. According to him, unlike other similar cases, the protesters have avoided clashes and have not fallen prey to provocations or attempts to create divisions within the movement.
Speaking about the risks that could weaken the civic momentum, Lubonja identified the government's attitude towards the protests as one of the main challenges. According to him, the indifference shown by the government is not simply a lack of reaction, but can be used as a political instrument to reduce the motivation of citizens.
He argued that when a government responds to concerns raised by citizens, it creates a sense that public engagement is having an impact and this encourages continued participation. Conversely, a stance that ignores protests can create the belief that citizen response is having no effect.
According to Lubonja, this is precisely why indifference could become one of the biggest dangers for the movement. He said that the message being conveyed by the government is that protests can take place, but decision-making continues without being influenced by them.
The analyst also focused on the statements of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who has reiterated that government projects will continue regardless of the number of protesters who may take to the streets.
According to Lubonja, such an approach aims to minimize the weight of citizen reaction and create the perception that public pressure has no impact on decision-making. He described this as part of a strategy that can lead to fatigue and demoralization of people, making them believe that their voices are not being heard.
In his analysis, Lubonja emphasized that in the face of this stance, the decisive factor remains the resilience of the protesters. According to him, the ability of citizens to maintain mobilization and continue participation will directly affect the fate and effectiveness of the protest in the days and weeks to come.
