The request of an Albanian with a British passport and four British citizens to appeal the decision of August 27, 2024, which accepted Albania's request for their extradition, was reviewed by the English High Court of Justice.
It is reported that the lawyers of the five wanted by the Albanian justice have achieved a partial victory. Judge Mr. Justice Swift has decided to record a 3-day hearing of the defense claims in October 2025 from which the request for permission to appeal will be examined on the merits. This procedure is called “permission to appeal”.
Also during these three days, a "substantive hearing" will take place, meaning the parties in the process, namely the lawyers of the five and the representative of the Albanian state, will debate before the judge the main issues that may be sufficient to support the request for appeal.
Since 11:30 this Thursday, Edmond Haxhië's lawyers, Thomas Mithan, Harry Simpson, Harriet Bridgeman and Steven Hunt, have been waging a legal battle to win the right to appeal to block the extradition.
They are accused by the Lezha prosecution of being involved in the murder of businessman Ardian Nikulaj./ TCH
