The Athens Court has sentenced 39-year-old Albanian Kastriot Cenko to life imprisonment, accused of murdering his wife, Alba Cenko, 32 years old and the mother of their children.
According to the court's decision, the convicted person will also serve 2 years and 6 months in prison for possession and use of weapons. The jury found him guilty of intentional homicide in a state of mental calm, by a majority of 6 to 1. One of the members of the court had assessed that the crime could have been committed in a state of emotional outburst, but this position was not accepted by the majority.
The serious incident occurred in November 2024. According to the investigative file, Kastriot Cenko hit his wife with a hammer, then tied a cable around her neck and hid the body in the ceiling of the apartment.
Investigations revealed that for five days he had deceived the victim's family and friends, claiming that she had left the country for work. He later confessed to the crime to the authorities.
During the trial, the prosecutor argued that the accused had acted with a calm mind, had taken steps to hide the traces of the crime, and had shown no remorse. According to the indictment, the victim was a hardworking woman, devoted to her family and raising children.
On the other hand, during his defense, the 39-year-old stated that he had lost control after an argument with his wife. He claimed that the victim had told him that one of the children was not his and that he had addressed him with irony. The accused denied that the crime was premeditated, insisting that he had acted in a moment of anger.
