Journalist Xhevahir Zhabina has revealed new details about the joint operation between SPAK and the Italian anti-mafia, which led to the crackdown on an Italian-Albanian criminal group involved in drug trafficking, money laundering and a mafia murder in Italy.
Invited to "Euronews Albania", Zhabina stated that the group, led according to investigations by Albanian Igli Kamberi, is suspected of having organized the execution of an Italian citizen in 2025, who worked as a hairdresser, but was suspected of being a drug distributor in the area controlled by the group.
"This criminal group is also attributed to the murder of an Italian, who is suspected of being a distributor in the area controlled by Igli Kamberi in the Puglia area. It is suspected that the hairdresser was killed for a sum of 500 euros," he stated.
According to the journalist, the manner of execution was typically mafia-like and resembled the methods used by the Italian mafia in the 1990s.
"He was killed in a macabre manner, shot 5 times with a pistol and burned between tires to carbonize him, a murder used by the Italian mafia in the 90s. There have been a series of operations over the years, we have a joint structure with the Italian authorities and the main investigative actions were carried out by the Italians," said Zhabina.
The journalist also adds that 15 security measures have been issued as part of the operation, 10 in Albania and 5 in Italy.
"There are 15 security measures, 10 are in Tirana and 5 in Italy, among them Ergys Kastrati who was arrested along with his wife, another woman and 2 drivers. He was in the role of the money receiver, while 4 companies that were used to launder money have also been seized ," he concluded.
