
An Albanian internationally wanted man has been arrested in England as part of the joint operation "The Wanted", conducted by the State Police in cooperation with British authorities.
According to the official Police announcement, Sabri Sopoti, 60 years old , was arrested , who was sentenced by the Dibra Court to 24 years in prison for the criminal offenses of "Premeditated Murder" and "Unlicensed Possession and Production of Weapons, Explosive Weapons and Ammunition".
The arrest was made thanks to cooperation between Interpol Tirana and Interpol Manchester, with the aim of his extradition to Albania.
According to the investigative file, the incident for which Sopoti was convicted occurred on December 24, 1999, when he allegedly killed the citizen with the initials BK with an automatic firearm.
"As a result of informational and operational coordination between Interpol Tirana and Interpol Manchester counterparts, within the framework of the operation codenamed 'The Wanted', the internationally wanted citizen, Sabri Sopoti, 60 years old, was arrested in England, with the aim of extradition to Albania," the police statement said.
Albanian authorities announce that the procedures for the extradition of the 60-year-old have begun and Interpol Tirana continues to cooperate with its British counterparts to bring him to Albania, where he will serve the sentence imposed by Albanian justice.
