
The Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Tirana has completed the investigations and has sent the file to the Court against 5 persons, citizens of Kosovo, for the criminal offense of 'Smuggling of Licensed Goods' in collaboration, provided for by Article 173/2 of the Criminal Code.
Citizens Altin Maqastena, Bekim Zenuni, Andi Grabanica, Ardian Ismajli and Ferat Zenuni, in December 2024, arrived from Istanbul to Albania at Rinas Airport with 300,000 euros in cash and 14 suitcases of medication.
After notification from the General Directorate of Customs, a physical check of the luggage revealed a value of 300,000 euros. Meanwhile, after the arrival of the luggage, Rinas Customs officers, the Anti-Smuggling, Anti-Trafficking Group and the Rinas Police found 14 suitcases with 1,057,840 medications labeled 'Unified' with a total weight of 417.1 kg, which were seized along with the undeclared monetary value.
The investigation proved the commission of smuggling of licensed goods (medicines) not authorized in the Republic of Albania. The prosecution concluded that the criminal offense was committed in collaboration by the five arrested persons. The seized goods, which are classified as 'medicines' within the meaning of Law no. 105/2014 'On medicines and pharmaceutical services', as amended, require: a marketing authorization, a use authorization and a control stamp issued by the AKBPM in accordance with the obligations set forth in Law no. 105/2014 'On medicines and pharmaceutical services', as amended.
In light of the above, in accordance with Article 331 of the Criminal Code, the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Tirana, sends to trial citizens AM, BZ, FZ, AG and AI accused of committing the criminal offense of 'Smuggling of Licensed Goods'.
