The warnings received by the Belgrade regime clearly showed who dictates the pace of regional processes and who will have the leading role in them in the coming period, until the major EU enlargement in 2030, which is particularly worrying for the Aleksandar Vučić regime.
The arrest of a Croatian Air Force pilot and his girlfriend, a Serb from North Mitrovica, on espionage charges represents the second such case in recent months. The first case was the arrest of an official from Serbia's Office for Kosovo, whose phone was found to contain compromising material from technical talks in Brussels - material he had regularly recorded and sent to Serbia's Security and Intelligence Agency (BIA).
The case of the Croatian pilot also leads to the Serbian services through the “Serbian List”, to which he is suspected of having distributed data on KFOR movements. What is particularly problematic in these cases is the fact that it has now been documented that the Serbian services are actively engaged in espionage of the negotiation process in Brussels and of the KFOR mission, the only mission protecting the security of Serbs in Kosovo, which reveals Belgrade’s destructive and destabilizing intentions in Kosovo.
Moreover, the timing of the revelations of these matters signals the message from the Western intelligence community to Belgrade: its destructive activities are no secret to Brussels and Western capitals, which are setting red lines that Serbia will not be allowed to cross.
The warnings received by the Belgrade regime clearly showed who dictates the pace of regional processes and who will have the leading role in them in the coming period, until the major EU enlargement in 2030, which is particularly worrying for the regime of Aleksandar Vučić. A special symbolism is the fact that the espionage scandals were officially revealed by the services of Kosovo and Croatia, which represents a kind of humiliation for Belgrade, which is trying to present itself as the main actor in the region. Under Vučić, Serbia is losing one position after another.
In addition to the losses in the field of intelligence, the "Open Balkans" project no longer exists; in the process of European integration, Serbia has now lagged behind even Bosnia and Herzegovina; economically it is in decline, with a growth rate of only 2% and inflation exceeding 5%, the highest prices of basic goods in the region and the lowest purchasing power of the population! The economy is on the verge of collapse and there are no new investments, especially from the West. The "gap" in the budget is growing more and more.
The situation is now completely clear. The EU and its key countries will not allow the regime in Belgrade, nor its mentors in Moscow, to hinder the announced enlargement and EU plans in the Western Balkans. Bosnia and Herzegovina will become part of the EU, despite and in spite of the opposition of the kleptocratic regime of Milorad Dodik and the reluctant support that Aleksandar Vučić and his government give in this direction. The same applies to Montenegro and Kosovo.
Marta Kos's statement in Bled that Montenegro and Albania could become EU members even before 2030 confirms my previous claims that Brussels is firmly committed to 2030 being the year of the Union's major enlargement! This is further evidenced by the recent Independence Day celebrations in Moldova, attended by Macron, Scholz and Tusk - something that has never happened in the Western Balkans. Serbia can choose a self-destructive goal, becoming a black hole on the carpet of Europe, but it cannot drag its neighbors and the entire region into its dark and perspectiveless politics.
Everyone must understand that these espionage affairs, just like the terrorist act in Banjska, the attack on KFOR in May 2023 and the withdrawal from Kosovo institutions in the north… are the basis for the complete political isolation of the “Serbian List”. No one in Kosovo wants to cooperate with them anymore, not even the parties of other minority communities!
Therefore, the Serbs of Kosovo should come to their senses as soon as possible and in the upcoming local elections - and perhaps even parliamentary ones - give their trust to other parties, because with Vučić and the "Serbian List" they will remain victims of a wrong policy that is leading Serbia into isolation, while the regime will continue to use them for the nationalist rhetoric that keeps it in power! Serbs from Kosovo should help the citizens of Serbia free themselves from this destructive regime, so that together we can finally all enter calmer waters!/ TheGeopost
