From the Peace Board in Manzë, when hope turns to fear
The war in Iran

It remains to be seen what this advanced and careless policy will produce towards a conflict that is not ours and that does not belong to us as a state.

Just 12 days ago, the world was introduced to a panel of men and women seeking the attention of US President Donald Trump in family photos in Washington. It was the Peace Board that was pompously presenting itself to the world, while behind the scenes America and Israel were preparing for war. Only 12 days have passed since that moment, but it seems like an eternity. It also seems like a poignant irony that a president who established a parallel UN “to resolve conflicts”, who ran in the last presidential election with the motto “President of Peace” and who seeks the Nobel Peace Prize from morning to night, is today at the head of an armed attack of this scale, with deeply dangerous consequences for the entire globe. The Peace Board began its activity with an act of war!

The military attack on Iran has produced a chain of events that have the potential to plunge world peace into a dark tunnel. Three days of fighting have been enough to understand that the theater of conflict can capture the borders of Europe, as it has included within itself the entire Middle East, the Arabian Peninsula and the area around it. The war has closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of global oil and natural gas passes, as oil and gas prices are rising alarmingly. It has brought into its bloody range the six monarchies of the Persian Gulf known as a stabilized environment that has stayed away from conflicts and wars. The drones over Dubai and Doha have shocked world opinion, as the very purpose of the Iranian attacks on them was precisely that. To create surprise and horror in the luxurious monarchies where "nothing bad ever happens."

It is clear that the war that the US and Israel declared against Iran is not a consequence of any emergency related to this country's nuclear program. For 40 years, Israel has claimed that "Iran is a week away from a nuclear bomb". This incursion is clearly an attempt to change the theocratic and brutal regime of the ayatollahs. But without having a plan B under the table. President Trump is repeatedly asked by the American media what the next step is after the overthrow of the current regime in Iran, but has not given any clear answer as to what the Americans and Israelis intend to do after having overthrown the regime.

Provided they shoot it down, of course. As the first hours of the war resemble a game of chess where the parties are measuring their strength, trying to preserve their reserves and the cards they have up their sleeves. Israeli air defenses are starting to feel the weight of Iranian missiles and drones, while American planes are once again finding it easy to penetrate Iranian airspace.

The current conflict has more than a shadow of doubt about its strategic goals and real causes. The US and Israel do not admit that they are attacking Iran with the aim of changing the regime there but simply to stop the advancement of the Iranian nuclear program towards an atomic bomb. However, behind the nuclear curtain it seems that the real goal of the two military allies in question is to replace the regime of the ayatollahs with a government that suits American-Israeli interests. It is unclear how this can be done by striking a 2500-year-old empire that is half the size of Europe from the air and without ground troops. Even more unclear how you can claim to be striking a nuclear program only eight months after telling the whole world that the Iranian atomic bomb was “buried once and for all” under the depths of the tunnels hit by American shells during the 12-day war.

On the contrary, what remains clear is that the world has entered an extremely dangerous and endless turmoil, where those who attack do not know what they want to do the day after victory, while those who defend themselves ignore the suffering of their people in order to preserve the rotten and bloody 40-year-old theocracy.
