Expert Eduard Gjokutaj commented on the figures of the Institute of Statistics that show the continued decline in Albanian exports.
He says he does not see it as an economic crisis, but as a signal that the model for promoting domestic production needs to be overhauled.
"The time when Albanian exports had an advantage, which was the free labor force, is over. Now costs have increased and this can no longer be an advantage for the Albanian economy. Above all, this type of export has ended its cycle," said Gjokutaj.
Currently, exports are based on the manufacturing, electricity, and metals sectors. But these sectors are unstable.
"Tourism and remittances have played a positive and stabilizing role. But they cannot be a basis for protection for the trade deficit, so there needs to be a diversification of export sources, an orientation of investments in more competitive sectors ," he said for "Vizion Plus".
