Donald Trump's health is once again at the center of political and media debate in the US, as the American president is expected to undergo another medical checkup today at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the country's most important military hospital.

The White House describes the visit as an "annual preventive medical and dental checkup," but American media point out that this is the fourth checkup made public in just over a year, since Trump returned to the White House in January 2025.

There is no law in the US that requires presidents to release their medical records, but administrations routinely release information about the president's health. The problem, analysts say, is that the reports are filtered through the White House and only released after they are approved by the president himself.

Trump turns 80 next month and the issue of age has become a sensitive topic in American politics, especially after Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race due to concerns about his health and age.

Today's scrutiny also comes at a delicate political moment, as Trump seeks to project the image of an energetic leader ahead of the midterm elections.

However, doubts about his physical and mental condition persist.

A Washington Post, ABC News and Ipsos poll showed that less than half of Americans believe Trump has the physical health and mental clarity necessary to effectively exercise the office of president.

Jeffrey Kuhlman, former White House physician during the presidencies of Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, stated that concerns about the president's health are "probably at an all-time high."

According to him, for a president of Trump's age, a complete checkup should include advanced heart tests, checks for the most common tumors, and cognitive tests.

The White House has not provided details on the examinations that will be conducted, but has expressed confidence in the results.

"President Trump is the most brilliant and accessible president in American history and enjoys excellent health," White House spokesman Davis Ingle said.

During public appearances, Trump has often been seen with makeup on his hands to cover bruises, which the administration has linked to excessive handshakes and aspirin use.

On several occasions he has appeared sleepy during official meetings, while the president himself has denied sleeping during meetings.

Trump has repeatedly stated that he has passed cognitive tests "excellently," but some experts have raised concerns about his often slurred speeches and aggressive rhetoric.

Last month, more than 30 neurologists, psychiatrists and other experts released a statement questioning Trump's mental fitness to serve as president.

The experts admitted they had not personally visited the president, but said they were based on "objectively observable signs of serious health problems" and warned of an "increasingly dangerous deterioration" in his behavior.
