Donald Trump has made a joke by saying his departure from office is likely to happen in eight or nine years.
This statement came after a tax cut approved by the US administration, which allows businesses to benefit from significant deductions for spending on new plants, equipment and capital investments during the first year.
"That way, when I leave office, let's say in eight or nine years, I can benefit from this measure myself," Trump said, referring to the tax cut. His statement drew laughter from the audience.
Trump will turn 80 on June 14. His election for a second term at the head of the White House came after the sudden end of the campaign of his opponent, Joe Biden, which was linked to issues of the Democrat's age and physical condition to hold office.
Biden aimed to win a second term, which he would have started when he was 82 years old.
"I myself have taken three tests during my term, and I have passed them all successfully, one during the first administration, two now. How do you think Biden would have coped with them? I say he probably wouldn't have been able to answer the first question," Trump says.
