The conflict between the United States and Iran is entering a new phase of escalation, with new American attacks near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, while Gulf countries are taking increased security measures for fear of expanding the war.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that at 20:00 (Albania time) the fifth wave of attacks on Iran was launched, with the objective, according to it, of "further weakening Iranian military capabilities."
Iranian media reported explosions on the island of Qeshm, as well as in the cities of Bandar Abbas and Chabahar, strategically important areas near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Baghdad issued a security alert for American citizens in Iraq following a drone attack in Erbil. In the official statement, the embassy reiterated its call for American citizens "not to travel to Iraq for any reason," citing the risk of terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflict and civil unrest.
At the same time, Qatar rejected Israeli media reports that it had agreed to participate in military operations against Iran. In an official statement, Doha called these claims "false" and stressed that it would not allow them to undermine its diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
Bahrain also took extraordinary security measures, restricting the movement of all vessels in its territorial waters from 6:30 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., as a precautionary measure due to tensions in the region.
Recent developments indicate that the clash between Washington and Tehran is widening, while concerns about a wider regional conflict continue to grow.
