Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel intends to intensify its attacks against Hezbollah, insisting that the two sides are "at war" with each other.
A fragile ceasefire has been in place in Lebanon, home to the Iran-backed militant group, for weeks. But in a video statement posted on social media, Israel's prime minister said strikes on Lebanon must be intensified.
" What this requires of us now is to strengthen the strikes, to intensify the force. We will hit them hard," he said.
Netanyahu said Israeli troops have killed more than 600 Hezbollah operatives in the past few weeks. The Israel Defense Forces issued evacuation orders for ten towns and villages in southern Lebanon this morning.
In recent hours, it said it had begun attacking Hezbollah infrastructure sites in the Tyre area.
The announcement comes after Israel's far-right security minister called on Netanyahu to step up attacks on Lebanon, including cutting off electricity to the country.
" It's time for the prime minister to knock on Trump's desk and inform him that we are returning to war in Lebanon ," Itamar Ben-Gvir wrote in X.
