The Iranian regime's uncontrolled executions have caused concern in the international community. In this regard, 520 international figures have signed a statement calling for a halt to these executions.
A coalition of 520 global figures and non-governmental organizations has issued an urgent appeal to the United Nations to intervene to stop the imminent executions of political prisoners in Iran. The expanded list of signatories underscores growing international concern about Tehran’s campaign of politically motivated executions.
The coalition of 520 personalities and non-governmental organizations states that since 2021, over 1,800 prisoners have been executed, including women, minors, ethnic and religious minorities, and dissidents.
" We, the undersigned international experts and non-governmental organizations, unequivocally condemn the Iranian authorities' escalating campaign of politically motivated executions. These acts constitute a grave attack on human rights and a deliberate strategy to suppress dissent."
We demand an immediate halt to their executions. The international community must not remain silent. Dozens of political prisoners face imminent execution after grossly unfair trials. Some have been forcibly transferred to Qezel Hesar prison, a notorious execution site. Since President Masoud Pezeshkian took office in August 2024, over 1,800 executions have been carried out, targeting women, minors, ethnic and religious minorities, and dissidents, in a calculated attempt to prevent a new uprising and suppress demands for democratic change.
"The Iranian authorities' systematic targeting of political prisoners is rooted in a culture of impunity, fueled by a failure to hold perpetrators of past crimes accountable. This was documented in the landmark July 2024 report on Atrocity Crimes by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Iran, Professor Javaid Rehman, who found that the mass killings of 1981 to 1982, and the massacre of 1988, constituted crimes against humanity and genocide," the joint statement said, among other things.
