Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted to the incident in Maliq, where one police officer was killed and another was injured.
Rama wishes a speedy recovery to the injured officer Edison Adri, 36, while demanding the maximum punishment for the perpetrator.
Meanwhile, the leader of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, has requested a minute of silence for the fall in the line of duty of state police officer Enea Mekolli.
Mekolli, Balla announced, has been declared a martyr of the homeland.
"During a difficult operation to capture a highly wanted person, who had been hiding from police forces in the mountains of Korça for years and had repeatedly managed to escape encirclement, a State Police officer fell in the line of duty, while another of his colleagues was injured. The perpetrator, after opening fire, was injured and was handcuffed by the police."
The importance of the duty that the police uniform carries should make society reflect on the respect for police officers. The police serve and serve with devotion the homeland and citizens. The State Police has shed blood in the name of its mission and oath. The blood of the State Police is the blood of the state itself; whoever raises a hand against the State Police has raised a hand against the state.

"On behalf of the Socialist Party, we request that a minute of silence be observed in honor of the memory of State Police officer Enea Mekolli, who died in the line of duty and was recently declared a martyr of the homeland," said Balla.
