Prime Minister Edi Rama announced today the amendment of the Law on Higher Education. Rama made this statement during the presentation of the report of the Accreditation Board of Higher Education Institutions, which discussed the data collected during a 4-year intensive work cycle for the evaluation of universities in Albania.
The Prime Minister linked the process of amending the law to the process of Albania's membership in the European Union.
"We are on the verge of membership in the European Union, so there is a need for a review of the law on higher education, which should reflect the experience accumulated so far, but also the latest developments in modern academic systems," said Rama.
He called for a bold and determined approach to address the challenges, noting that this is a key moment to give Albanian higher education a new boost towards European standards.
Rama stressed the importance of this process as part of the vision for a “University 4.0”, underlining that the report represents a valuable balance for the further development of higher education in the country. “We requested this meeting for a balance of intensive work over a 4-year period, which deserves respect and gratitude for the commitment,” he said.
According to Rama, the report highlights the progress made, but also the many challenges that remain to be faced.
"We requested this meeting for a necessary balance of the intensive work of the accreditation board over a 4-year period, which deserves respect and thanks for its commitment, and I have certainly collected a considerable amount of data and experience to put at the service of the academic community, higher education institutions that administer higher education and the relevant institutions of the Albanian government. I would like to thank with great gratitude the members of the board who are Albanian and foreign personalities engaged in the European academic world and have made their knowledge, dedication and professional integrity available to the board.
This report clearly shows the progress made in these years and the considerable volume of things that remain to be done, because while we move forward, there is no question that the world is flying by. And to catch up, and to give the girls and boys of this country, but also others, a serious and competitive academic offer in the conditions when Albania will soon become a member of the EU. We need to push forward with great force and address without hesitation those who are necessary to be addressed, starting with the review of the higher education law that has been redone for years to be rewritten from the top of an accumulated experience, but also from many new ones in the academic world", said Rama.
