The government has planned 203 million lek for religious communities this year, an amount higher than last year.
Funds for religious cults have increased by about 60 million lek compared to the previous year. The largest share of them goes to the Muslim Community, with over 57 million lek. The Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church each benefit from 48.6 million lek. Meanwhile, the World Bektashi Patriarchate results in an amount of 483.5 million lek.
The main part of these funds is used to cover part of the salaries of employees of religious institutions. A fund of 28 million lek has also been provided for the World Bektashi Patriarchate for the construction of the Shtufi Tekke in Gjirokastra.
The distribution of funds is related to the number of believers of each community, according to data from the 2023 population and housing census. According to this census, over 1.1 million people declared themselves Muslims, over 202 thousand Catholics, around 173 thousand Orthodox and approximately 116 thousand Bektashis.
The current budget does not yet include a separate item for the Faith Park project. This project aims to create a space that unites different faiths and remains pending.
The planned construction area covers an area of 210 thousand square meters near the Erzen Valley. The project aims to host up to 30 thousand visitors per year and includes structures for small activities and events with a capacity of up to 500 people. The spaces will reflect the symbols of each faith.
Funds for religious communities and related projects remain tied to budget planning and ongoing developments.
