The Council of Ministers has approved a new decision that determines the criteria for food treatment for State Police employees, students and trainees of educational structures.
The decision is based on the new law "On the State Police" and enters into force after publication in the "Official Gazette", while the financial effects apply from January 1, 2026.
According to the new rules, police officers are treated with one lunch when working 8 hours, and with three meals when engaged in standby, emergency situations, elections or extended services. Employees of the Center for Physical Education and Elite Sports are also treated with three meals.
Students and trainees attending mandatory training at the Security Academy receive one lunch for one-day training, while for multi-day programs, they receive three meals based on the days of stay.
Three free meals are also guaranteed to foreign citizens who enter illegally, Albanian citizens returned from abroad, and persons detained or arrested until their situation is clarified.
In cases where food cannot be provided through canteens or catering services, financial compensation is provided: 500 lek for one lunch and 900 lek for three meals. These amounts will be indexed annually according to INSTAT inflation. The financing is covered by the budget of the Ministry of Interior.
