Former President Ilir Meta has once again addressed the Supreme Court with a request to replace the security measure of "prison arrest" with a milder measure, continuing the legal battle for his freedom.
This move comes after on March 24, the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime rejected his request to change the measure, despite the offer of a financial guarantee of 50 thousand euros.
Ilir Meta has been in custody since October 2024, following investigations by the Special Prosecution Office, where he is accused of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets. The investigations mainly relate to the CEZ-DIA affair, the Socialist Movement for Integration's lobbying contracts in the United States, as well as the source of the declared assets.
The case against him, which also includes his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi, has already been sent to trial. It is expected that a draw will be made soon to determine the panel of judges that will hear the case.
The latest request to the Supreme Court constitutes another attempt by Meta to change the security measure, while the legal process against him is expected to enter a decisive phase.
