Children in Tirana are living amidst the noise of traffic, horns, and fireworks that are exposing them to dangerous acoustic levels every day.
ENT surgeon Tedi Minarolli stated that this constant exposure can cause speech delays, hearing loss, but also aggression and emotional problems in young children.
"Of course, children are a very sensitive target in the population for several reasons, because hearing is an organ - let's put it this way - that is connected to language. If you have a problem with hearing, language is necessarily not developed properly. The hearing organs in children are more sensitive ," he told "A2 CNN."
So, where does the problem with speech begin?
"The problems are related to hearing sensitivity and the impact is higher in children compared to adults. In addition to hearing impairments, noise also affects a child's quality of life. Those who are exposed to noise have problems concentrating. These children also become aggressive; for example, those who spend a lot of time with headphones or a phone," he said.
Does it also affect the nervous system?
"It has a big impact. The car horn can cause immediate hearing loss. If it is very loud and falls directly into the ear, this creates big problems. Not only does it reduce hearing, but it can also cause other pathologies. There are some people who hear well, but the noise in the ear and the car horn can do this ," the doctor concluded.
